Tired of trying to attain the mythical work-life balance and constantly feeling frustrated? Are you giving yourself a C– for your performances at work and at home? Teresa A. Taylor knows that trying to be a career woman and a mom can leave you feeling tired and defeated, and she wants you to take a new approach. She herself rapidly ascended through the ranks to become COO of a Fortune 200 company while raising two boys with her working husband, and in The Balance Myth, she shows you how you can do it too.
Taylor takes you along to a meeting in the White House, to union negotiations, and to her sons’ soccer practices as she shares her candid, humorous, and heartfelt stories. Based on these real-life experiences and the lessons she learned from them, she shares the key to living with multiple responsibilities integrating—not bifurcating—your personal and professional worlds. In addition, she offers insights about leading with integrity; surrounding yourself with positive resources; pushing through adversity; and celebrating accomplishments—especially your own.
Taylor couldn’t take the mother out of the career woman or vice versa, and she believes that you shouldn’t have to either. Don’t search for balance; the answers are within you!
The Balance Myth Rethinking WorkLife Success eBook Teresa A Taylor
This book is a "best practices" guide for working mothers who aspire to excellence in all aspect of their life. It's a down-to-earth and very real look at what it takes to make both parts of your life work. As a CEO/eneur and mom of two special needs kids, I felt this book was written for me!On one hand, it was such an enjoyable read that I didn't first notice all of the wisdom to be extracted. Taylor uses lots of personal stories to illustrates her points, which made it a relatively quick read.
For me, the power of these stories have become more apparent as days haved passed and I find myself still "percolating" over some of her stories. I appreciate the lessons to be learned by someone who has lived through circumstances such as firing a babysitter in the middle of a workday or wrangling her toddlers at the office on the weekend.
If your looking for "rocket science," this is not the resource for you. Instead, it's common sense. But, the beauty of it is that it articulates many common challenges and provides a fresh perspective from someone who has "been there." It's sage wisdom that will serve to strengthen an already determined and hard-working woman.

The Balance Myth Rethinking WorkLife Success eBook Teresa A Taylor Reviews
I was expecting more, but there were good take aways. I'm a male professional, so I was looking for some insight into the female professional perspective. Perhaps the message was there is no difference - hard work, professional ethics and manage the priorities - because success requires the same ingredients.
The layer approach was interesting, but I didn't subscribe to some of elements of the time management - a bit too much "chunking" which hasn't worked for me.
All in all, an enjoyable read, grounded and worthwhile.
Puts a realistic spin on the idea of home and work and the fact they cannot be split. Great short read!
Great, easy read that gets to the point quickly in the beginning. I truly appreciated all the personal stories and examples Ms. Taylor shared. Voices of professional women are invaluable as we all try to make it through life!
and not a very good one. Save yourself a lot of time and just read the Forbes article on time management that the author wrote.
Not very well written and did not really give me much insight into work/life balance that I have already heard before. Book moves too quickly and it seems as if even though the author faces adversity, she is quick to overcome it. This is not the case for a lot of people.
Great book for working moms! My favorite part was "throw out the idea of perfection". The author really does teach that you cannot split yourself between your home and work. You can be 100% there when you are at work or at home.
I was expecting to read more specific details regarding the strategies the author used to balance her personal and professional life. Unfortunately for me, the strategies were more generic than I wanted so they were less effective than intended.
However, a section I enjoyed reading was how she uses networking to add value to this necessary tool of the trade. It helped me learn how to improve my skills in this important aspect of my career.
